Welcome

Dear Team,

Clean drinking water is essential for life.

Many charity organisations, like Water Aid in the UK and Life Water in Canada are not allowed to work in parts of some developing countries, leavings millions of people without safe and clean drinking water close to home or school.

We have seen the effect of war, natural disaster, poverty and diseases on the lives of many innocent people. A young girl described her problem in obtaining fresh water. “We go to the bore hole early in the morning and come back to the camp at around midday with only 20 litres of water for a family of 10”  - only 2 litres of water per person per day. Children are washed in turn using a bucket of water. The first one is lucky; the rest less so.

PictureThe most disadvantaged people - especially schoolchildren in the war ravaged areas like Northern Uganda were abducted, raped, tortured & traumatised by witnessing the murder of their parents and others.  Despite such experiences these children still strongly believe that only through education can they improve their chance of a better life, achieve things for themselves and support their families.

Children walk for miles to school every day. In the case of Northern Uganda, having walked to school, over 84,000 children have to walk again around 3 miles during break time between lessons in search of clean drinking water. Often, the water they collect and drink is dirty or contaminated.

Lack of clean drinking water and sanitation in this region has killed many children due to water born diseases including Cholera and Typhoid..  Similar cases occur in Democratic Republic of Congo, Ruanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan and other countries.

These people’s strong will, resilience and determination to do what is right against all odds, challenge us all to consider making whatever contribution we can towards improving many lives.

For these reasons, The Running Water Trust appeals to you; - together please let’s gives them the precious gift of clean drinking water.
